In her first solo exhibition, painter Linda Moss brings a strong contemporary showing of work. Moss received the Critical Mass 7 Critic’s Choice award in the Visual Category, and spent just under a year interviewing adoptees and breathing life into the stories of those who know what it’s like to feel as if their foundation has been shaken from the very beginning.

STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST

There are few things more joyful than bringing home a new baby. The nursery is decorated in sweet hues and family, friends, and neighbors wait excitedly. But for those of us brought home through adoption, there can be many mixed feelings. The world tells us to be happy and grateful, and while we may feel those things we may also feel deep sorrow and confusion. Our very bodies hold the memory of separation. The Shaken Foundation was born out of the voices of adult adoptees. These are the words and emotions that lie just underneath the glossy surface of adoption.

ARTIST BIO

Linda was born in Shreveport and grew up in Natchitoches. She studied art at Northwestern State University, but became restless before she finished and went on to experience life in Texas, Arkansas, and North Carolina before returning to Louisiana. She enjoys experimenting with different acrylic techniques and often wonders how many dog hairs become trapped in the many layers of paint she uses.
