Materiality: An On the wall installation

January 24 - February 22, 2020
mainspace @ artspace

Northwest Louisiana Artists Nadine Charity, Julie Glass, James Marks, Sherry Tamburo and Kathryn Usher take on the walls of artspace in “Materiality,” a twist on past “On the Wall” exhibitions using the walls as backdrops to multiple 3D installations in fiber, textiles, clay, metal, photography and the written word.

exhibiting artist: Nadine Charity

Living in New Orleans led Nadine to realize the sparking magic of possibilities. She has reimagined the story of her mystical teen years with hand-stitched “amulets” consisting of hidden poetry and threads of 24K gold.

exhibiting artist: Julie Glass

Julie has found images of female figures in sidewalk cracks and brought them to life in steel, fabric, wool, ceramics, and old photographs. Material parts of her life history are interwoven into the figures.

exhibiting artist: James Marks

Following the desire of each handful of clay, James builds objects to be held, not just looked at. Shaped like bones, organic machines, and altars to forgotten gods, each piece is unique.

Exhibiting artist: Sherry tamburo

The alchemy of Sherry’s fiber art is what keeps her enthralled with the magic of working with transformative, sustainable materials. This exhibition offered an avenue for collaboration and personal growth in her journey as an artist.

Exhibiting Artist: Kathryn Usher

Costumed babyfaces and masked heels populate Kathryn’s work. Utilizing a variety of substances, she’s created a tall tale about her upbringing in a pro-wrestling heritage.
