returning home

MEDIUM Acrylic
Unmarked graves containing the remains of 215 children (age 3-18) had been found in Canada at a former residential school set up to assimilate indigenous people on May 28, 2021. As of today, 5,296 children have been found in unmarked graves at former residential School sites in the US and Canada. There are still hundreds of former school sites to search.
This work is about the indigenous children being found and returning home to the indigenous community. There are many remains of children still not found today, I show that in this painting by using red paint to symbolize the unfound children. And using the yellow painting to show the found indigenous children returning home.
